Microwave Photonics GmbH (MWP) is a partner in the Making ConneQtions project, an Interreg VI Deutschland-Nederland initiative running from June 2026 to September 2029. The project’s central goal is the realisation of a 70-kilometre cross-border testbed between Enschede and Münster, designed as a European hotspot where companies and research projects can validate quantum communication innovations under real-world conditions. Building on experience from the preceding DE-QOR and SEQUIN projects, Microwave Photonics contributes proven coherent receiver expertise directly applicable to the photonic chip development at the heart of Making ConneQtions, where highly sensitive optical components are essential for reliable quantum key distribution across the testbed. As such, Microwave Photonics’ contribution is central to the project’s ambition of positioning the Dutch-German border region as a driver of European technological sovereignty in quantum communication.
