Microwave Photonics receives first COMET funding in REFLOW.

Microwave Photonics GmbH is now part of the REFLOW project

Microwave Photonics GmbH (MWP) is a partner in REFLOW (Ultra-Low-Noise RF-over-Fiber System for LO Reference Distribution in the Einstein Telescope), the first project to receive funding under the COMET programme, an Interreg initiative supporting the development of the Einstein Telescope. To measure gravitational waves with the required precision, every component of the Einstein Telescope must be perfectly synchronised — even the smallest disturbance in signal transmission can affect the accuracy of the measurements. Together with Dutch partner Sabratha, Microwave Photonics is developing an innovative signal distribution system to meet this challenge, contributing its specialist expertise in RF-over-fiber technology for transmitting highly stable reference signals with minimal noise. The project officially kicked off on 9 July, marking the start of the collaboration between the two partners.

Beyond its role in fundamental physics research, the technology developed for the Einstein Telescope opens up opportunities for companies to develop new products, form international collaborations and enter new markets — with potential applications ranging from advanced medical equipment to more efficient communication systems.
